Botanical Gardens

Laidlaw & Laidlaw Design have extensive experience working on historic Botanic Gardens.   The mania for Botanic Gardens in the 19th century swept across the British Empire, but in the Australian context this was never  more embraced than in  Victoria, where virtually every country town and city of any consequence developed its own ‘Botanic Garden’.
Laidlaw & Laidlaw Design have gained significant enjoyment and satisfaction from working on many of these Gardens - both preserving their heritage significance and developing them into vibrant, contemporary public spaces.

Lead by Andrew Laidlaw (Landscape Architect at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne), our team members have worked on Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, Benalla, Geelong, Kyneton, Sale and Warrnambool.   This includes the following projects:
  • Kyneton Botanic Gardens Masterplan
  • Kyneton Community Park (within the botanic gardens)
  • Benalla Botanic Gardens Conservation Management Plan / Master Plan Review (on behalf of the RBG Melbourne)
  • Benalla Rocket Park (within the botanic gardens)
  • Sale Botanic Gardens planting design
  • Geelong Botanic Gardens Glasshouse Refurbishment
  • Warrnambool Botanic Gardens historic well
  • Williamstown Botanic Gardens Masterplan (current)
  • Hamilton Botanic Gardens Masterplan (current)
  • Ballarat Botanic Gardens Fernery (current)
